Asian Power

Several days ago I had an interesting chat with a missionary pal. She is full Korean, born and raised in Provo, Utah. I am part Caucasian and part Japanese and raised mostly in California. We were talking about how hard it is to live in a dominantly white community aka Utah. I first moved here the summer right after my Sophomore year. I moved from a pretty dominant asian area to dominantly white in a matter of hours. I remember my first day of school in Utah a girl approached me and asked me what nationality I was. I told her I was half-Japanese and then she started rambling how cool China was. I was like, you're joking me, right? China and Japan are two totally different countries.

My friend and I then started talking about how hard it is to date here. I'm not bragging or anything but a lot of people here think it's cool I'm part Asian but a lot of people that think that are girls. Most of the girls here are white, tall, thin, blond, and have blue eyes. I also think one of the reasons I'm interesting to look at is because I don't fit the category mentioned earlier. However, it's super hard to date here because I feel like guys only like those Utah type of girls because that's what they are used to seeing. I feel like that there are some guys that don't care about race or anything but the ones  that usually dig my half asian ness are the ones that are into Samurai sword fighting and Anime. Not that there is anything wrong with that, it's just not who I am.

I do admit though even when I was living in California amongst many asians I still felt out of place. When I'm with other asians I feel white, when I'm with white people I feel asian. Eh… anyways, I hope that one day my asian genes will pass down and my kids will be beauts. I mean check some of these halfies out:

The one on the left is 1/4 asian, 1/4 white and half black!

Love Marie Digby's music!
