Hoshiko (Miriam) Otoshi Hirano

Lately I have been thinking a lot about my grandmother whom I have never met. She died when my father barely turned 15 or 16 so I have never met her. My cousin put a book of her photos, memories, and sweet comments by her 7 sisters, their husbands, and close friends. I feel like even though I never met her we are quite similar. I think she has bits and pieces of her left behind in all of us grandchildren. The legacy she left behind is a constant reminder to me of how devoted she was to her family, volunteer work, and church. She may not have been recognized for her efforts in some spontaneous way but she affected a lot of people more so than she probably thought. Sometimes I wonder am I too like her? What type of legacy would I leave behind? Would people actually care about what I did? It's funny that even though I have never met her and she's not living on the earth today she still influences me for the better. I wish I was better at posting pictures... maybe I'll go back and re-edit this post with a picture later.

  1. At this time of the year, I think a lot of my mom too. I can see different characteristics in each one of my children that she had. She struggled with issues we all do, but overcame a lot because of her service and Christ-like charity she had for others. I believe you are a lot like her Carianne and I know she is very pleased with you and the example you are to your sisters. She also was an older sister who forever impacted her family as you do.
